Warner Bros. future releases to all be DVD Combo packs

Postby furryzombie on Fri Dec 18, 2009 12:03 pm

I was reading this morning that (in the US at least) all future Warner Bros. Blu-ray releases from Feb 2010 will be DVD Combo packs only. This applies to theatrical releases (i.e. not to TV seasons or straight-to-video).

Thoughts? Personally I'm not bothered about having a DVD or digital copy. I don't really have any use for them. What concerns me more is that it will mean the prices are higher off the bat (£18 a pop once the VAT goes up again) and they won't reduce in price as quickly due to the extra content. I hope they don't follow suit in the UK, or they at least give a standard Blu-ray option too.

GAY, GAY, GAY is all I have to say!

As for VAT, I'll be a bit pi**ed if I actually notice the jump seen as they've hardly been upfront with passing any savings onto us!

Why charge £15 for a blu ray when they can add old stock that wasn't going to sell for and extra £3... money making scheme...

actually, i have to say that in terms of pricing, warner has always been very good from the start - including dvds. their customer service is second to none (i bought the west wing s5 from canada and it did not come with the insert - called them and they shipped me one for free). I don;t honestly think they will be charging that much more for the dvd combo packs - keep in mind that most of their new releases are combo packs eg 17 again etc etc.

and other examples include monsters inc and up - both disney, both for around $20-25 on day of release - standard prices pretty much for new releases.

and the whole system works well for me - i like the fact that i can have some movies on my iphone or laptop for when i am travelling - usually i watch them on BD first, but some are repeat watchers to just pass some time eg matrix, xmen2, horton. so i'm all for it.

I don't understand the point in putting a dvd in with the blu ray, Surely people buying blu rays have blu ray players & want to watch the movie the best quality possible :?: .
I can understand the digital copy to a degree but you don't need a disc for it really as you could just download it (there not exactly big in size).

All i want is a blu ray disc at reasonable prices. Although i must admit the price of blu rays have come down quite alot lately with even new releases dropping in prices quite quickly (with a few exceptions like star trek).

I'm all for it.

My 2 daughters have DVD players in their room - but I don't like buying DVDs because I like to watch movies on Blu Ray wherever possible. So this solves the problem - blu ray for downstairs, dvd for upstairs.
