10 prisoners on death row from various countries around the world are bought together by a producer making a 'reality' internet show, left on an island with 30hours to kill each other off. The survivor will walk free with a cash prize to boot.
Most people will think perhaps of Battle Royale, but it was more like watching an episode of Lost due to the surroundings.
Out of the 10 'contestants' the only 2 worth mentioning are Vinnie Jones playing some sort of psycopathic British Special Forces type and Steve 'Stone Cold' Austin playing an American Special Forces type who is anything but psychopathic.
Each contestant has an ankle band of C4 also to help them get into the spirit of the game
The film is an 18, but could easily be a 15. it tries to be gritty and nasty...but not too much, which suited me fine, as this film has plenty of re-watch value and if it had been to extreme would have gone straight for trade. There's never too long a period for action to strike. Most of the characters are expendable in your care of them but the time spent fleshing out the character of the few people that have time spent on them is just enough for you to make your mind up with how you want this film to play out...and your not disapointed.
There's a strange moment in the film when there's some sort of half hearted attempt at a social comment on violence, I did'nt really know what to make of that. What does strike home though without giving too much away is when the 'reality' meets the reality.
The only let down was the sound. The picture is what you would expect but for a film with so many explosions and ambient jungle noise there's 0 sound effects! Still, this wont really stop your enjoyment of a very likeable no brainer action film.
