That's right you read it correctly lord of the rings trilogy.

This is a notification that the rings trilogy will be released by april next year at the latest, This is a while away but it's nice to know that they are coming in the near future unlike star wars which will take decades no doubt like it did on dvd.

Warner annouced yesterday that they are starting a new promotion in the US where you buy 5 warner blu rays & get one free & attached a list of the movies that are going to be in the promotion. Below is the list:

Yes Man
He's Just Not That Into You
Inkheart
Gran Torino
Mr. Troop Mom
Friday the 13th
The Cell 2
17 Again
Observe & Report
Watchmen
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
My Sister's Keeper
Hangover
The Orphan
Trick r Treat
Preacher's Kid
Shorts
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Four Christmases
Terminator Salvation
Jonah Hex
Whiteout
Final Destination 4
The Informant
Ninja Assassin
300 UCE
Wizard of Oz UCE
LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY
Gone with the Wind
Green Lantern
Superman Batman Public Enemies
Scooby-Doo The Beginning
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Horton Hears a Who
Charlie Brown Christmas
Lord of the Rings (Animated)
Star Wars: Clone Wars S1

Obviously the important point of this announcement for most people was that the rings trilogy was on the list & the promotion finishes april 2010 & this means the rings trilogy would have to be released before that date. Unfortunately warner did announce that they will be releasing the theatrical versions first, The 3 ring movies are rumoured to be released in december in the US. All warner releases have been region free so even if they are only released in the US, Here in the UK we will be able to watch them aswell :D

I'll wait for the extended trilogy of this - i can't see the point in "downgrading" from the extended DVDs to the theatrical blu rays.

I've never even seen the extended versions, I've only watched the theatrical versions once.

Mate, you need to watch the extended editions - they are amazing. They add so much to the movies.

Typical. They have indeed gone with the theatrical versions in a cynical attempt to get the movie-loving public to "double dip" yet again.

I'll wait for the extended editions. As long as I don't have to wait too long.

UPDATE

After the cancellation of this box set being released this year new line cinema & warner have announced that this will be released in the US on April 6th. Unfortunately no official release date announced for the UK yet but i'd imagine this will be released worldwide in April.
Still just the theatrical versions being released but it's a start at least.
