The Killing was originally a Danish drama serial first broadcast to much critical acclaim on BBC 4. Its perhaps not surprising then that the Americans spotted a winner and snapped up the rights to an English language version, transporting the action from Copenhagen to a very rainy Seattle. The series follows the investigation into the murder of local teenager Rosie Larsen, with each episode covering approximately 24 hours. The first season covers the first two weeks of the investigation and has three main storylines: the police investigation into Rosie’s murder, the attempts of her family to deal with their grief, and the fluctuating electoral fortunes of a political campaign that becomes embroiled in the case. All in all its a very thoughtful and well plotted series, far removed from the typical hollywood fare and for only £11.99 for the blu-ray box-set definitely worth a punt. Especially when most places are selling it for £26+
